T.J. Rowden
Ph. D.
Therapist
T.J. received his B.S. in Marriage, Family, and Human Development and M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Brigham Young University in 2000 and 2003. He received his Ph.D. in MFT from Texas Tech University (2008), completing his dissertation on Humility and Client Change in Relational Therapies.
T.J. began his clinical work with individuals, couples, and families in 2000, and has since practiced in various settings (e.g. youth and adult outpatient, residential treatment, and juvenile justice.) From this experience, his interest in serving both youth and their families grew. T.J. joined Center for Excellence in 2005, and he has since been licensed as a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). He maintains a strong interest in the development of character strengths and virtues in youth and families. It is his belief, that addressing both individual and relational "problems" ultimately involves deepening an understanding of, and accountability for, the best that lies within oneself and relationship. This is rigorous work, but he is energized by the courage and resilience of those willing to engage in it, and the value that comes from assisting in such efforts.
Originally from Arizona, T.J. is the oldest of four siblings, and is married to Becky. He is a proud "Daddy" to Haylea, James, and Sterling. T.J.'s personal interests and hobbies include: fly tying and fishing, camping, various sports, cycling (both road and mountain), reading, working with youth, and spending quality time with friends. His truly "personal interests" more often include: story time, diapers, runny noses - just to name a few. Through the above, TJ has come to value patience, belly laughs, perseverance, asking for and offering help, forgiveness, good naps, and all of the little joys found unexpectedly in daily family life.
